Let The Travels Begin

It is beyond surreal that I will be in Italy less than 48 hours from now. This could be because I have barely started packing....but we'll just push that aside. I'm definitely feeling butterflies already, but for all the right reasons. I feel more excited than anything else, having never been to Europe before. Actually, I've only been out of the country once for a mission trip to Mexico - which doesn't really count in my mind. I'm so fortunate to have this life-changing opportunity (I know, cliche). But truly, I cant imagine how incredible my four months in Italy will be. I am so anxious to get there!

I've been asked by friends, family, and even my physician and eye doctor why Italy?! I'm sure some of you reading this are probably wondering the same thing. To be honest, and disappoint you right off the bat, I don't have a good answer. I have not one drop of Italian blood, have never traveled there before, and am not even close to fluent in Italian. All I can really tell you is it feels like a fit. After taking honors first semester Italian, I became fascinated with all aspects of Italian culture. It was after that course I started to seriously consider studying abroad, and put Italy on my list of considerations. After reading over many abroad program descriptions that sparked my interest, Italy always ranked #1.

So here I am, as ecstatic as can be, preparing for my journey to Florence. I couldn't be happier with my decision (loans and all), and am ready to begin my newest adventure!
